Bags With a Purpose

We have big dreams for a plastic-free planet.

Our mission is to design sustainably-made, luxury bags that help eliminate plastic waste. We believe every purchase can be a step toward a healthier planet.

Note From the Founder

Hi, I'm Molly, and I'm proud to call Charleston, South Carolina home. I grew up running barefoot along the beaches, watching flocks of seabirds dance in the sky and dive into the waves. It was a magical part of my childhood. Those moments instilled in me a deep love and respect for our coastal ecosystems.

As I got older, I began to notice the beaches changing. The same sand I once played on became littered with plastic, and I started learning about the devastating impact it was having on marine life. Today, countless seabirds and other animals are dying from ingesting plastic waste — often mistaking it for food. It hits close to home.

I created Worthy Wings as a way to be part of the solution. Our mission is simple but powerful: to reduce single-use plastics by offering sustainable, thoughtfully designed products people actually want to use that act as daily reminders to live with intention and create positive change. With every product we make, we hope to take a small but meaningful step toward cleaner oceans and a healthier planet — one that protects marine life, supports future generations, and honors the natural beauty around us.

Thank you for learning more about this mission and for joining me on this journey. Together, I truly believe we can bring our vision to life: clean beaches are in style.

Our Story

Founded on the Coast of South Carolina

Worthy Wings was founded in 2023 by high school student Molly Mettler. Her vision was a new approach to protecting seabirds, which are dying from plastic ingestion at an alarming rate.

Seabirds are important indicators of ocean health and face numerous threats, including climate change and human activities. Restoring seabird populations can help combat climate change by bolstering ocean ecosystems and increasing carbon dioxide drawdown. Specifically, seabirds contribute to nutrient cycling and distribute guano, which supports plankton, seagrass, and coral reefs, ultimately enhancing the biological carbon pump.

Molly envisioned a bag that would inspire people to clean up their trash and others’ – a beach tote with a separate water-resistant pocket for plastic waste, that was entirely made with organic / natural materials.

How You Can Help

Eight million tons of plastic enter the ocean every year.

Every year, a million seabirds die from ingesting plastic – and nearly three-quarters of the world’s seabirds have vanished in the last sixty years.

But it’s not just about birds. Seabirds connect ocean and land ecosystems on a global scale. Their droppings fertilize coastal waters and feed valuable plankton – which absorb carbon dioxide and make our air cleaner.

It seems like too big a problem to solve, but it’s not. Every piece of plastic you pick up can save one seabird.

How We Work

Our business model is as transparent as it gets.

100% of the profits from every purchase go to the American Bird Conservancy.
